Bridgeport, California is an incorporated community of about 800 residents in Mono County. It is at an elevation of 6,463 feet, at a spectacular location at the base of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Despite offers visitors a variety of dining and accommodation options. Despite it small size, Bridgeport is actually the seat of Mono County. It is home to the Mono County Courthouse, the district attorney, county counsel, administrative offices, animal control, auditor, treasurer, elections, information technology, public works, Board of Supervisors, a community center, a public library, sheriff's office, an elementary school, and a high school (Eastern Sierra Academy). Bridgeport is also home to the tribal headquarters for the Bridgeport Paiute Indian Colony of California. The Bridgeport Ranger District has an office in Bridgeport. It encompasses over one million acres in the Humboldt–Toiyabe Forest in both California and Nevada. The famous ghost town of Bodie, California is located twenty miles east of Bridgeport.

Twenty miles to the north of Bridgeport on State Route 108 is the location of the U.S. Marine Corps' Mountain Training Center. Its mission is to prepare U.S. Marine Corps, Joint, and Allied Forces for operations in mountainous, high altitude, and cold weather environments. The training center has elevations ranging from 6,700 feet up to 11,000 feet. The Mountain Warfare Training Center now provides pre–deployment training in support of the war in Afghanistan.
