Bridgeport Area Activities

Bridgeport is in a fertile valley, situated at the base of the Eastern High Sierra. Surrounded by the Humboldt–Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport is fantastic for recreation in each season. It has beautiful alpine lakes, rivers, streams and hot springs. Activities for visitors include fishing, hunting, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, horseback riding, mountaineering, rock climbing, wildlife viewing, birding, boating, sailing, water skiing, swimming, four wheeling, picnicking, photographing, ghost town exploring, and camping. In the wintertime, Bridgeport offers five hundred miles of trails for cross–country skiing and snowshoeing. Snowmobiling is also popular.

Bridgeport is one of California's best areas for trout fishing. Twin Lakes, the Bridgeport Reservoir, and the East Walker River are excellent for trout fishing. Bridgeport Reservoir, which is less than two miles north of Bridgeport and was established in 1924, has a thriving population of Rainbow Trout, German Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Sacramento Perch, and twenty plus pound Carp. The variety and amount of fish allow for very good catch opportunities whether it is trolling, still fishing, or fly–fishing. Robinson and Buckeye Creeks are well known fly–fishing spots. To the south, Virginia Lakes and Green Lake offer excellent trout fishing, camping and hiking in the Hoover Wilderness.
